Today, is the first day of our classroom Slice of Life Challenge!
Ralph Fletcher a teacher of writing remarks, "I want to write downhill, with the wind at my back. That happens when I can write what I'm passionate about. Choice is crucial." Perhaps you'll find his words of wisdom a good write from text strategy over the next few days. 1. Write your Slice and post it on your Weebly page. 2. Then copy the permalink (the link to just that 1 blog post) and put it in comments on this page by 8am. 3. Reply to 3 other Slicers by 8pm tonight. This week's slice will be a little different than other slices because of the generating strategy you utilize to create your slice. Today, choose a generating technique (dream write with substantial nouns, images, or because statements) to write your story. For each generating technique, you may make your own choices or you can have a partner choose your images or your because statement or use a because statement of your friends. Normal slice expectations still apply.
1. Write your slice. 2. Upload your slice to your Weebly account. 3. Upload the link from your Weebly or the Google Doc for your Slice to this assignment (Slice of Life 1/8/16) in Google Classroom. In private comments, write the generating technique you chose to use. 4. Upload the same link from your Weebly Slice for 12/11/15 to my Weebly page. . 1. Choose any technique that we have studied for slices (modified structure, details about another character, dialogue, 3rd person perspective) and use it in your slice this week.

Step 1: Write or copy your "Slice" into your weebly website. Step 2: Post your permalink to your "Slice" on Mrs. Gurney's blog post page. This should be a link to just the 12/4/15 Slice of Life. Step 3: Open the assignment in Google Classroom, post the same permalink to your Weebly website and press "done". Today, you will write a Slice of Life that includes dialogue. In class we learned about how to correctly punctuate dialogue and how we can use dialogue tags to reveal characters. These documents and examples are on Google Classroom.
Consider that your Slice of Life could share a holiday memory. Some other options this week: write an alternative ending to Stuck in Neutral or a review of Stuck in Neutral. Post your Slice to your Weebly. Upload your Slice to Google Classroom as a link to your Weebly. Don't forget to click "turn in." Write a slice today that involves another character. This other character should be as important as your main character (you).
